Video Interview with Dr. Bateman: Challenges and Opportunities in ME/CFS Education

For nearly three years, Open Medicine Foundation (OMF) and Bateman Horne Center (BHC) have been working together to bridge critical gaps in medical education for ME/CFS, Long COVID, and related conditions.

Together, we created the Medical Education Resource Center (MERC)—a powerful initiative designed to equip clinicians with practical, evidence-based tools to care for patients with complex chronic illnesses.

We invite you to watch this interview to learn more about the challenges and opportunities for medical education directly from Lucinda Bateman, MD, the Medical Director of MERC and the Chief Medical Officer of the Bateman Horne Center.

Medical education is far from one-size-fits-all because there is no centralized process. That’s why MERC takes a flexible, inclusive approach—meeting providers where they are, whether through academic lectures, clinical partnerships, state and federal medical boards, or freely accessible CME offerings online and in person. Every program is built to strengthen clinical confidence and expand access to informed care.

In just a few short years, MERC has delivered education to over 15,000 healthcare professionals across 46 states and 89 countries. Whether reaching those actively seeking deeper knowledge or introducing key concepts to clinicians newly encountering these conditions, MERC is growing a network of informed providers who bring lasting change to their communities.

We’re proud of the progress—and we know how much further we can go with your support.
