New Clinical Care Tools and Education Opportunities for Providers

The image shows the MERC logo, featuring the word "MERC" above a stethoscope and three upright books. Advancing Access - Elevating Care

Caring for patients with ME/CFS and Long COVID presents complex challenges—often leaving providers without clear, evidence-based guidance. That’s where the Medical Education Resource Center (MERC)—a collaboration between Open Medicine Foundation (OMF) and the Bateman Horne Center (BHC)—comes in.

MERC is delivering practical, evidence-informed tools that empower clinicians with the latest knowledge and resources to confidently diagnose, manage, and support patients with these complex conditions.

The image features a blue stethoscope, an open book with visible pages, a notepad with lined paper, and a pencil.

We’re excited to introduce new and upcoming resources designed to further enhance clinical practice and provide even greater support to patients:

📌 Clinical Care Guide: Managing ME/CFS, Long COVID, and IACCs – Available May 9th!

Our comprehensive Clinical Care Guide distills years of clinical expertise, research, and lived experience into a practical, step-by-step framework for assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing care. Designed to provide clinical insights and actionable strategies, this guide serves as a roadmap for navigating the complexities of these multisystem conditions.

🎓 Patient Education Modules in Collaboration with Emerge Australia

We’re introducing patient-centered, patient-informed education modules to support individuals in understanding their own illness patterns, pacing strategies, and triggers.

These modules:

  • Help patients identify contributors to PEM and orthostatic intolerance
  • Guide patients in developing personalized pacing plans
  • Provide clinicians with valuable insights that can inform care plans and accommodations

These tools serve as a supportive tool outside of clinical visits to help patients and their support network navigate life with ME/CFS.

📡 Long COVID & Post-Infectious Syndromes ECHO Series

In partnership with University of Utah Health, this ongoing Project ECHO series connects providers worldwide to share knowledge, explore case studies, and build clinical confidence while earning CME credits. Access the recordings and lecture slides here!

Here is what providers have to say about this successful initiative:

“This is the most relevant and detailed information I have seen on how to manage patients with ME/CFS and Long COVID. I feel like I can actually see these patients now-thank you.” ~Family Medicine, MD

“I really enjoyed this session. It was very clinically applicable and informative on how to change our clinical practice.” ~Neurology, MD

These resources—and many others—are made possible by the generosity of donors who believe in closing the knowledge gap and improving care for people with ME/CFS and Long COVID.

Every contribution allows us to:

  • Create new patient and provider tools that enhance understanding and improve care outcomes
  • Expand provider education and outreach to ensure more clinicians have the knowledge to diagnose and manage these conditions effectively
  • Strengthen our ability to meet the growing demand for informed care and resources

If these resources have helped you—or if you believe in the importance of empowering more patients and providers with this knowledge—we invite you to invest in sustaining this work.

Thank you for being an essential part of this mission. Together, we’re making informed, compassionate care a reality for patients everywhere.
