Cognitive testing

Silhouette of a human head on a blue background with puzzle pieces inside and floating away, symbolizing memory, thinking, or cognitive function.Cognitive testing is a way of measuring different parts of brain function. Some of these parts of brain function include reaction time, processing speed, attention, working memory, and spatial processing.

Brain fog is a hallmark symptom of ME/CFS, so cognitive testing can provide valuable information in research. Studies have shown that people with ME/CFS can exhibit impaired reaction time, attention, processing speed, and short-term visual and spatial memory.

OMF’s Collaborative Center at Montreal has utilized cognitive testing in their REMEDIAL study and identified three potential clusters of people with ME/CFS who show differences in performance during these cognitive assessments. Read more about the study and these clusters here.
